Azure Power Launches 1st Plant

December 14th, 2009

Azure Power is pleased to announce a momentous occasion:

India’s first private, utility-scale solar power plant is operational and supplying power to 20,000 people and 32 villages in Punjab. In this process, we’re eliminating CO2 emissions equivalent to 550,000 trees!

The formal inauguration of this “First in India” clean energy source will be held on Tuesday, December 15th at 10:00am.

Azure Power is honored that Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Honorable Union Minister of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India has agreed to inaugurate our plant. We appreciate his thoughtful leadership of India’s ambitious plans to make India the center of the world’s solar energy industry.

We are indebted to Sri S. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab for attending our inauguration and providing his kind support.

Azure Power executed this facility in record time thanks to the generous support of the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) and the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE). Our success is shared with all of the people who have supported this project.

We look forward to providing additional updates about our plant’s operations and plans in the making for extending Azure Power’s leadership in India’s efforts to establish a future powered by clean, renewable solar energy.

So, your company makes solar power plant components…

December 12th, 2009

Azure Power believes that the great unmet challenge in the solar energy field is building scalable solar power plants that are affordable, rapidly constructed, and extremely efficient at power conversion.

Two of our company’s strengths are the first points: we execute very cost-efficient solar power plants rapidly. Our design and project execution teams are best-in-the-world – as our power output meters confirm!

On the third part, we are fortunate to benefit from the billions of dollars of research and development led by innovative panel manufacturers, inverter design companies, and related companies. We do this by selecting the best technology partners and working with them to build the most efficient power plant. We believe that our current component partners (sorry, we keep them confidential) are the best in the world at delivering excellent, cost-efficient power conversion utilizing highly reliable components. That being said, we are always interested in learning about new companies or new products that will help us to deliver more clean, renewable solar energy to our customers throughout India.

However, we do not have time to consider every sales call from a new panel manufacturer or inverter designer. To help us better utilize your time and ours, please do us a favor:

Send a concise email about your company, your product(s), and their unique value propositions for a solar power plant developer and operator, like Azure Power. Please include a clear statement of your product’s cost (on a unit basis) and why it’s better than your best competitors (please provide us with data). We promised to consider every email we receive, though we might not respond to each one.

You can send those emails to info@azurepower.com.

If you are not a product company, but know about a great technology that you believe will help us support India’s ambitious solar goals, please let us know. While we’d prefer to keep all these good ideas to ourselves, you can leave your suggestion in the comment section or email us at info@azurepower.com.

Here’s hoping it’s sunny in Punjab today.

We are hiring ENGINEERS

December 12th, 2009

We’re growing so fast that we haven’t had time to finalize formal job descriptions for all of the opportunities at our company. Please read this post, if you are interested in working at the best solar energy developer in India.

As we say on our career page:

“Our unique approach to generating clean power and energetic culture makes Azure Power an exciting place to work. We hold a set of values that we look for in each of our employees. If you believe that solar energy has a bright future and that you are prepared to work creatively and diligently to realize this future, then you should join our team.”

If you are an accomplished mechanical, electrical, or civil engineer, who is convinced that solar energy is the most important source of power for India, and…

If you are excited about working with a quickly growing, though currently small, company, where you’ll have more responsibility than you know what to do with, then…

send us your CV and explain why we should hire you.

We need the following people to join our team:

1) Heads of project execution – You love to build power plants, know all the important electrical systems like the back of your hand, and are a natural team leader. You have a bachelors or masters degree from a top engineering school and at least five years of experience.

2) Senior HT Yard Engineer - Nothing keeps you up at night more than the fear of a line failure or trouble with a transformer. You have erected, tested, commissioned, and operated complete power evacuation systems in India. You’re ready for a new challenge.

3) Civil Engineer – You grew up building concrete playgrounds, not playing on them. When you see an open field, all you want to do is start building a project site. You’ve worked with state governments to ensure that you meet all regulations and make the officials happy.

4) Mechanical Engineer - Build it and power will flow. You excel at executing power systems, building structures for harnessing the sun’s rays, and enjoy a couple months in the sun (our project sites). With a bachelors in engineering and at least three years of existing experience in power infrastructure, you’re a prime candidate for this job.

We are looking forward to receiving your application.
